11 May 2009Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve written a letter to the President. Except for the last one. I just didn’t have anything to say to him. Mr. Nixon was the only President who wrote me back. In his own hand. I responded. He wrote back again! Then, since I was probably about six years old, I got bored with the whole letter writing thing and took up barbies or whatever I was into. At any rate, no one can say anything bad about Nixon to me and that’s final.
I wrote President Obama a letter via his website (this is 2009, after all). I asked him to do something about the usury that is the credit card industry and to help Americans educate themselves about credit card debt through online tools, library programs, etc. And to make the credit card companies pay for this program, much like the tobacco companies pay to educate people about smoking. Well, he listened and did me one better. Check it out! The Credit Card Holders Bill of Rights Act. (I’m sure he didn’t even see my letter let alone read it but I’m so stoked about this legislation and I hope he gets to sign it soon!)
