Pet Peeve of the Week

In: Librarianship

23 Apr 2009

I am an electronic resources librarian. I negotiate lots of contracts and talk to sales people a lot. Since this is renewal time for most libraries, including ours, I get a boatload of phone calls. I have many voice mail messages, many of which are ignored because I have no idea what the person is saying. Note to sales people: When you leave your name and phone number on a customer’s voice mail, try to be coherent. Slow it down and be professional for cripes sake. I received a message from a vendor this afternoon and I really wanted to call her back. Alas, she said her name and number so fast that it sounded like this: “Hi, thisisAlaghoagbDaljgalgfromxxxxxxcompanyandmynumberis(lal)ala-lalaextensionblah.” I am not calling you back, Alaghoagb. Sorry!
